Humming as I Go

I drove as fast as that old car could make it down the road
Cause I know that plane won't wait for me, humming as I go
I’m headed off to New York City, where the streetlights always turn to green for me
Back to New York City, somewhere I can finally be free

Last night was the end for me, the straw that broke my back
It’s clear that I’m the only one for whom the odds are stacked
I’m headed off to California, sunshine ain’t the only thing I’ve lost
Goin back to California, no one here will miss me when I’m gone

I’m tired of waiting for my time to come; it’s been there all along
You always seemed to leave me wanting more

Can you take me on a ride above where the ocean air begins
They say this city never sleeps, I think I’ll fit right in
I’m headed off to New York City, the skyline makes me smile everytime
Back to New York City, somehow I can never leave behind

A photograph when everything was right
